Do you have a question about Codi'r To?
Here are some questions we are asked frequently! If we don't have the answer for you here - please contact us!
Codi'r To is a community regeneration project that brings the world-renowned El Sistema teaching method to North Wales. We work in two schools, Ysgol Maesincla in Caernarfon, and Ysgol Glancegin in Bangor.
El Sistema is a Venezuelan music education program founded in 1975 by José Antonio Abreu. Its primary goal is to use music as a tool for social change by providing free music education to children, particularly those from underprivileged backgrounds.
We offer a variety of activities including sessions in the schools, after-school music clubs, community events, and special projects like our National Music Scheme that operates across the County of Gwynedd. We also provide Samba workshops for the community - if you'd like us to conduct a Samba workshop at your event, please get in touch with us.
Our programs are primarily aimed at children and young people in the communities of Caernarfon and Bangor, but we welcome participation from any community members that are interested.
Our activities take place in various locations, including local schools such as Ysgol Maesincla and Ysgol Glancegin, community centers, and other public spaces in Gwynedd. Codi'r To's office is based in Noddfa Community Centre, Caernarfon.
If you're interested in volunteering, please email sion@codirto.com to express your interest and learn more about available opportunities.
We have various roles for our volunteers, you can help with community events, assist with sessions and clubs in the schools, or even support the administrative work in the office.
While no specific skills are required, a passion for music and community engagement is always a plus! We can provide any necessary training for specific roles.
Every child in Ysgol Maeincla and Ysgol Glancegin will recieve sessions by Codi'r To. If your child does not attend Ysgol Maesincla or Ysgol Glancegin, you can contact us directly for more information on available activities.
Most of our programs are free, thanks to funding from grants and donations. Some specialized activities may have a small fee, but we always try to keep costs as low as possible.
Participants should bring their enthusiasm and their passion for learning. For any specific activities, we’ll provide the necessary instruments and materials.
Yes, we regularly hold concerts, performances and community events where we perform so the public have the opportunity to enjoy live music from Codi'r To pupils.
